The project Ella&Ellington derives from an idea by Irene Robbins, the American singer with great energy and communicability and, after years of experience, of all styles in Jazz, Gospel, R&B, avantguard and other, wanted to pay her dues to the vocal tradition, giving homage to one of the greatest vocalists of all time, and her relationship to one of the most important composers of the 20th century.
Obviously we are referring to Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington.

Ella Fitzgerald’s enormous songbook, momentarily pausing in the analysis of the compositions by “Duke” can probably find its best synthesis here among art, musicality, entertainment, and interpretative “depth”.

The voice and the musical ability of Irene Robbins gives a superb homage to the great “duo” in reinterpreting the Evergreens and less well known pieces with arrangements that personalize (as they “should” in jazz) the compositions and accomplishes them without losing their sense of beauty.

Irene Robbins’ fellow adventurers follow her in respect to the tradition, but without ever losing their own individuality both in language and in sound, both being primary ingredients of Jazz.

The repertoir, based of course on the compositions of Ellington, interpreted by Ella, leave the main track from time to time, making “evergreens” out of other great traditional classics, as if to follow the wave of a perfume which is impossible to resist.
